Stop speeders and bad parkers
I THINK that CCTV surveillance cameras should be set up immediately in Market Street, Highbridge.
This is because of the increasing numbers of vehicles speeding through this 30mph zone every day, especially during the morning and evening rush hours, and also between 1pm and 2pm, as well as cars constantly parking illegally, either on the pavement or on double-yellow lines, or sometimes both.
It is sometimes literally impossible even to walk on the pavement, as happened the other day, when pedestrians, including myself, were unable to walk past Bird's Furniture Shop in Market Street, as there was a car parked outside, partly on the double-yellow lines, with lunchtime traffic to get around.
This is actually not the first time it has happened, as there was another car outside this junk shop only the other day, so that pedestrians had to squeeze along the window of the shop to get past.
The shop owner would seem to condone the actions of his customers, as he just stands there at the doorway chatting with them. I have never once seen a policeman in Market Street during any of these times, but if you do manage to see one driving past, it is highly unlikely they would be of any use to the ordinary pedestrian, as policemen tend to look overweight, unfit and lardy these days.
The idea of one of them running after someone, as in The Bill, is just plain laughable.
