Chances of seeing The Stone Roses headline the 2013 Glastonbury Festival may have all but evaporated, but speculation is mounting over another possible high-profile reunion for next year's Somerset spectacular.

Pop culture website Holy Moly has this week reported that The Smiths have agreed to reform in 2013 for four gigs in the UK.

The website suggests that Glastonbury 2013 will be one of those four dates, speculating that it will involve a Saturday night slot on the Pyramid Stage.

Rumours surrounding a possible reunion for The Smiths is nothing new and, since their break-up in 1987, both singer Morrissey and guitarist Johnny Marr have repeatedly insisted that it would never happen.

Earlier this summer, speculation was growing that The Stone Roses were being lined up to headline Glastonbury 2013 after performing at their sell-out reunion gigs in Manchester.

But festival organiser Emily Eavis indicated on Twitter that Ian Brown and co would not be appearing.

She asked Twitter followers who they'd like to see on stage at the 2013 festival and, in reply to one user who suggested The Stone Roses, she tweeted: "Stone Roses not playing next year."
