The Stone Roses linked with headline spot at 2013 Glastonbury Festival

The Stone Roses are the latest band to be linked with the headline spot at the 2013 Glastonbury Festival.

Lead singer Ian Brown, guitarist John Squire, bassist Gary 'Mani' Mounfield and drummer Alan 'Reni' Wren have just finished three sell-out reunion gigs at Heaton Park in Manchester over the weekend.

More than 200,000 fans saw the Madchester movement pioneers make their triumphant homecoming, 16 years after splitting up.

And already, rumours are rife about a possible headline slot at Glastonbury next summer.

The Daily Star has already reported in Kim Dawson's Playlist column that The Stone Roses will headline both the Glastonbury and Isle of Wight Festivals next year, although there has been no official confirmation of any bands as yet from Worthy Farm.

The Stone Roses were originally due to headline the 1995 festival, but were replaced by Pulp after guitarist Squire broke his collarbone in a cycling accident.

Last month, it was The Rolling Stones who were hotly tipped to take centre stage at the 2013 Festival following an article in the Sunday Mirror which suggested Mick Jagger and co would retire in 2013 with a Glastonbury headline slot.

That rumour was quickly rubbished in The Guardian, which reported that 'speculation about the Stones playing the festival is nothing new'.

"Everybody in the year off thinks they've come up with the perfect Glastonbury line-up," a Glastonbury spokesman was quoted in the newspaper as saying. "But at the moment there isn't anything to confirm or deny."

In January, Glastonbury Festival founder Michael Eavis hinted that the 2013 headliners were 'already sorted' during an interview with BBC Radio 1's Newsbeat while picking up a lifetime achievement award at the European Festival Awards in Groningen, Holland.

Among the other artists and bands linked with possible appearances in 2013 are Prince and Radiohead but, until an official announcment is made, the speculation and rumours will continue.

One thing is for sure, though, and that's the date when the 2013 Glastonbury Festival tickets go on sale.

2013 Glasto tickets will go on sale at 9am on Sunday, October 7.

With no event this year, festival-goers are already counting down to next year's spectacular, which will get under way at Worthy Farm on Wednesday, June 26.

The registration process for buying tickets remains the same, and a Glastonbury Festival statement said: "As part of our continued commitment to cut out ticket touting, anyone who would like to attend next year's Festival must have registered in advance of tickets going on sale.

"Registration remains free of charge. If you're not already registered, then head over to www.glastonburyregistration.co.uk now to fill in your details and upload your picture (it only takes a few minutes).

"Remember, every person who would like a ticket will need to register individually.

"If you have registered to buy tickets to the Festival before, you may well still be registered (you now only need to do it once).

"But we very much advise that you check your registration now. If you can't find it, the best bet is to re-register - much better to get it all sorted not now than to discover your registration has expired on the day of the ticket sale."
