Frome athlete Hayley Steward helped the Somerset Schools Senior Girls' Heptathlon team to victory at the South West Regional Combined Events Championships at the weekend.

The Frome College student combined with Sara Geary, Stephanie May and Jessica Oliver to take first place at Exeter Arena.

With five of the six counties from the South West represented, Somerset held off stiff competition from a strong Wiltshire squad.

The Somerset team have now qualified for the English Nationals, to be held later in the year at the Bedford Athletics Stadium.

Steward also finished in third place individually with a new personal best after completing the 100m hurdles, high jump, shot putt, 200m, long jump, javelin and 800m events.
