The public can walk in the footsteps of hunter-gatherers this summer.

For 16 days, Cheddar Gorge and Caves will be taken over by the Festival of British Archaeology.

There will be demonstrations of Stone Age survival skills and prehistoric face-painting, and talks about early life in the gorge and its cannibalistic past.

Visitors will have the chance to learn what life was like in prehistoric times, including hearing the story of the Cheddar Man skeleton which somehow survived to modern day.

The event, part of an extravaganza co-ordinated by the Council for British Archaeology, runs from Saturday, July 18 to Sunday, August 2.
