STARTING strongly will be a key message broadcast by Gary Johnson to his new look Yeovil Town squad when pre-season training begins.

Despite the sizeable turnaround, Johnson has faith in the first team squad he believes is "90-5 per cent" complete and said a strong start was essential to avoid relegation scraps similar to previous seasons.

Johnson said: "I have always said how important the first group of games are. It can really dictate your season from early on.
"If you do well and pick up points you are generally there or thereabouts at the end, but if you are in a relegation position towards the start you have got to do a lot to get out of it.
"I have only inherited relegation situations in the past couple of seasons and at least I have had the experience of getting out of that as well. It is more important to make sure I pass on to the lads that early message and to make sure we are up there, competing.
"We need to be ready and it is about being prepared, which means you are full fitness, you have a full squad and you are coming into form early. One or two clubs might get out of trouble from being in it early but not many."
