DEFEAT to Torquay United saw Yeovil Town Under-18s extend their wait for a second victory of the season.

After triumphing 1-0 against the Gulls in the Youth Alliance on the opening day of the campaign, the Glovers have been unable to build on their solid start.

Under the guidance of acting head of youth and former Bolton Wanderers and Derby County professional Scott Green, Yeovil showed character to come from a goal behind, only to lose 2-1.

Green's team selection was hampered by second year scholar Rhys Baggridge make the first team's substitutes' bench at Notts County.

Under-16 captain Lee Sweet stepped in at centre half, while Josh Doyle made his first start after FIFA cleared his registration.

A slow start from the Bovey Tracey, Devon, visitors was almost punished with a Torquay goal before the Glovers came close themselves.

An 18-yard free kick was tipped around the post by the Gulls' keeper, before Lloyd Matthews brough the best from the stopper after receiving Joe Grimstead's corner.

Moments later Grimstead fizzed a corner across the face of goal, before Torquay made the most of a rare free kick, as an attacker hammered home the delivery into the Glovers' area.

Yeovil responded in kind, however, at Tyler Sheppard and Matthews linked well before Lewis Clarke beat the keeper with a low shot.

Sheppard still found time before the interval to head over, while Rob Clowes brought another strong save from the keeper.

A quiet start to the second period came to an end when Nick Lyskov tried his luck from distance, but missed the target.

Will Gordon beat three defenders to gain a sight of goal, only to fire high and wide. On 66 minutes the Glovers failed to clear a long ball, knocking the ball into the path of an on-rushing Torquay attacker.

The forward made the most of his good fortune to confidently lob Yeovil keeper Steve Boore as he left his line.

Adam Cleary and George Coward entered the fray in a bid to fashion a second equaliser for the Glovers, but despite an early impact they were unable to find the net.

Their last chance came 11 minutes before the final whistle, when Cleary headed over from a free kick.

YEOVIL TOWN: Steve Boore, Josh Doyle, Joe Grimstead, Mitch Conning, Lee Sweet, Nick Lyskov, Lewis Clarke, Rob Clowes, Lloyd Matthews, Tyler Sheppard, Will Gordon. Subs: Aiden Chainey (for Sheppard, 86), Adam Cleary (for Gordon, 67), George Coward (for Conning, 72), Will Agbo (unused).
