Staff employed at a new fast-food outlet in Yeovil are due to begin training for their new roles after building work resumed on the restaurant.

Work has started again at the KFC building, on the Houndstone Retail Park site, and is due to be complete by autumn, a KFC spokeswoman said.

Work on the site halted and 30 KFC staff were laid off after contractor Lex Construction went into administration before Christmas.

Some staff employed to work in the Yeovil branch had been laid off until building resumed, while others were relocated to other KFC restaurants.

Now the fast-food chain is starting staff training for 40 employees for the Yeovil drive-through restaurant.

A spokesperson for KFC said: “In the next couple of months training will begin for our team members who were employed earlier in the year and have stayed with us.”

A spokesman for Pradera, which acts as landlord at the Houndstone Retail Park, said: “We are delighted to confirm that a new main contractor, Lancer Scott, has now been appointed to complete construction of the KFC at Houndstone Retail Park.

“Works have started on site and are estimated to take three months, then KFC will complete its own internal fit-out before they open later this year.”
