St Werburgh's spring used to fill ships barrels
Further to your story about Bristol's water supplies (BTJan22), some years ago I visited the Boiling Wells near Muller Road, in St Werburgh's.
The owner of the site, who took me round, told me that it used to supply water to Bristol.

This spring, and its fresh water, is still there. I think there are also other springs around, but I am not sure where they are.

Editor's note: This powerful spring did indeed once supply water, via a lead pipe, to a conduit in St Stephen's street.
Here, at what was once the quay head, it was used to supply fresh water for ships' barrels.
The conduit was destroyed in the 1930s.

“The Quay Pipe was supplied by a spring in the grounds of The Farm public house. The Boiling Wells was also used as part of Bristol's water supply at different times. I'm (slowly) writing a book on the springs, streams, mills and floods of Ashley Vale.”
