AN ACTION group lead by one of Bridgwater's most famous protesters is still looking for ways to save the Splash swimming pool.

Bridgwater Forward was recently formed by members of the public who do not agree with Sedgemoor District Council's decision to close the much-loved pool and members are fighting to find ways to bring the council to justice.

The group, led by disabled protester Sally Jones, was formed by people who had been involved with the Save Our Splash campaign since its inception.

Now, members are raising funds to try to pay for a judicial review which means Sedgemoor's decision to close the 18-year-old pool in Northgate will be brought before a judge.

Chairwoman Mrs Jones said: "Everyone who is interested in trying to save the Splash and bring swimming back to Bridgwater is more than welcome to these meetings.

"We want the community's support. We are the voice of the people who want swimming in Bridgwater now, not in three years time.

"It's not only fighting for the Splash - if that battle is lost we will move on to other things to try to get swimming back in the town, but if there is even a glimmer of hope that our much-loved pool will be reopened, we'll keep trying to save it."

The judicial review will cost the group £10,000 and so far, only around £2,000 has been raised to pay for it.

Other members of Bridgwater Forward include Bridgwater Town Mayor Ken Richards, Labour, town councillor Bill Monteith, Labour, prospective parliamentary candidate Kathy Pearce, Labour, and leader of the Sedgemoor Liberal Democrats, Councillor Joe Leach.

Mrs Jones added: "We're encouraging people to come along and listen to what we have to say - we do have a chance to fight the decision to close the Splash."

The next meetings will be held on Tuesday, October 13 and Wednesday, October 21 in the Labour Club next to Bridgwater Library at 7.30pm.
