Spend night with talent contest stars
Central Somerset residents have the chance to see two of the stars of this year's Britain's Got Talent contest, when they come to mid-Somerset.
The Central Somerset Gazette understands that contracts have now been signed that will bring dancer Tobias Mead and boy band Reconnected to Wells for the Spend a Night on the Town event on September 15.
TV presenter Peter Rowell will introduce the main acts, and rugby star Danny Grewcock is to expected to carry out taste tests of the many tempting food treats on offer.
The visit from the Britain's Got Talent stars will be the icing on the cake for the event which intends to build on the success of last year's special night.
Tobias's agents Mcintyre Ian Group have confirmed that contracts have been signed for the two acts to attend.
Tobias auditioned for ITV1's smash hit show Britain's Got Talent performing his "Back to Front" routine.
He received great acclaim from the judges and a standing ovation from the audience.
Amanda Holden said: "I was blown away by that, one of the best dance acts we've ever had, brilliant."
Tobias went on to reach the Britain's Got Talent Grand Final, performing to 15.4 million viewers. Of his performance in the final, Piers Morgan said: "Something really contemporary, very creative very inventive, I think you're all those things, more than that you're a showman, you put on a show, I could see this in Las Vegas, and I think that makes you the best dancer in this competition."
Boy band Reconnected, made up of brothers Max, 16, and Harry Mondryk, 13, and friend Matt Fitzgerald, 13, are all from Manchester.
In 2010, Matt, Max and Harry entered the show, with an extra two friends, to considerable praise from both the judges and the audience.
The boys went on to reach the live grand final and went on the 24-date Britain's Got Talent live tour.
A Night on the Town will start at 6pm and feature markets, late-night shopping, live circus performances and music, street entertainment and gourmet cooking demonstrations.
Originally proposed by Somerset County Council as part of an intended initiative across the county to help boost trade in several centres, last year's successful Wells event is the only one that took place.
The county council is no longer involved in the project, beyond a £1,000 grant from county councillor John Osman's community fund
Instead this year's event on Wednesday, September 15, is being organised by a team of volunteers from the Swan Hotel, Mid Somerset Series, Wells traders, the Kings Head, Avon and Somerset Police, Farmers' Markets, Wookey Hole Caves, Mendip Association of Chambers of Commerce and the BBC.
Somerset firm R Tincknell & Son Ltd are one of the event sponsors. Philip Tincknell said: "We are very pleased to give our sponsorship for the forthcoming Spend A Night On The Town evening to be held in Wells which we are sure with the great line up of the exciting events that are planned, will be a huge success."
Sadler Street, Broad Street, Queen Street, High Street and the Market Place will be closed to traffic on the night.
Entrance to the event is free.
