A mid-Somerset driver was running strongly before he had to retire from the Rallye Sunseeker this week.

Jon Sparks, of Keinton Mandeville, was 20th overall after the event's sixth stage but he then had to retire in the service park. Sparks was competing in the event, based in Bournemouth and the surrounding forests, with co-driver Chris Davies in their Mitsubishi Lancer Evo VII.

The winner of the event, which ran on Friday and Saturday, was Will Nicholls and his Somerset-based co-driver Nick Broom in their Subaru Impreza WRC.
