Soulful stars head to the beach for a celebration
Soul II Soul, featuring main man Jazzie B (pictured) and vocalist Caron Wheeler, are heading to the golden sands of Watergate Bay at Newquay tomorrow to headline this year's Electric Beach Festival. Household names in the late 1980s and 90s, with hits Keep On Moving and Back to Life topping the UK and US charts, they are celebrating the 25th anniversary of their seminal album Club Classics Vol One. Released in the summer of 1989, Back To Life has sold over a million copies worldwide and featured in the Opening Ceremony for the London 2012 Olympics. Jazzie B has enjoyed international success, winning two Grammys and an Ivor Novello award. As well as underpinning the band he has built a reputation as a mixer and producer, working with James Brown, Nas and Destiny's Child, to name but a few.
Other main stage acts include Swiss Lips, Zion Train, the Martin Harley Band and Hot D'Jour, starting from late afternoon, with Soul II Soul performing as the sun goes down.
Jazzie B will also play a DJ set at the official after-party, being held at The Chy Bar in Newquay. Other artists featured are Falmouth's live drum and bass act Running Numbers, The Scribes and The Nextmen. Visit electricbeachfestival.co.uk.
