Somerset waste and recycling collection dates over Christmas and New Year
Changes will be made to waste and recycling collections across Somerset during the Christmas period.
No collections will be made on Christmas Day, Boxing Day or New Year's Day across the county.

Somerset Waste Partnership has announced revised collection schedules for Mendip, Sedgemoor, South Somerset, Taunton Deane and West Somerset.
Collections this week will be two days later than usual. If your collection day is Tuesday, this week rubbish will be collected on Thursday, December 27.

Wednesday collections will be made on Friday, Thursday collections on Saturday, and Friday rubbish will be collected on Sunday, December 30.
From New Year's Day to Friday, January 4, scheduled collections will be made one day later.

SWP said all recycling and refuse services will go back to their usual day in the week from Monday, January 7.
Garden waste collections are suspended between Christmas Eve and January 7, while all recycling sites are closed Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year’s Day.
The sites will be open on New Year's Eve, but will close at 4pm.
In North Somerset, waste collections will also be made two days later this week, although regular Friday collections will be made on New Year's Eve next Monday.

Real Christmas trees can be put out for collection with the first green waste collection in January or taken to your nearest recycling centre. During the winter months green waste collections are just once a month.
The district’s three recycling centres at Weston-super-Mare, Backwell and Portishead will be closed on December 25 and 26 and January 1.
Bath and North East Somerset Council have also suspended collections on Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year's Day.
Tuesday, December 25, collections will instead be made on Saturday, December 29; Wednesday, December 26, collections on Wednesday, January 2; and Tuesday, January 1, collections on Saturday, January 5.

During the Christmas break an additional 40 per cent extra waste is generated, especially as a result of packaging.
Residents are being asked to flatten, fold up or cut up cardboard into manageable pieces and ensure that it’s free from other materials such as polystyrene.
Polystyrene can’t be recycled and should be put in with the non-recycling waste.
