A vet who recently got the go-ahead to build a veterinary equine hospital in Wookey has been selected to look after the horses at the London Olympics.

Tim Randle, who lives in Wookey and is a partner in The Stables Equine Practice, based at the Royal Bath & West Showground near Shepton Mallet, will be one of four veterinary surgeons appointed to look after the health of 300 horses from more than 35 nations at Greenwich Park this summer.

Tim was previously shortlisted for the British eventing team for the Barcelona Olympics.

Mendip District Council's planning board gave the green light to the scheme for an equine hospital on land off Penny Batch Lane at his home in Wookey last year. Plans include a staff flat, parking, landscaping and hard and soft lunging and trot-up areas.

In his application Tim explained that they had outgrown their present facilities. The practice employs four full-time vets and three full-time support staff.

In 2008 they treated 6,772 horses. Olympians can be sure their horses are in good hands.
