Today is the 200th anniversary of the publication of Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice.

The novel was an instant success in 1813, but has enjoyed renewed popularity thanks to a series of film and TV adaptations.

Its leading couple Elizabeth Bennett and Mr Darcy have been famously played by Greer Garson and Laurence Oliver (1940), Jennifer Ehle and Colin Firth (1995), Keira Knightley and Matthew Macfadyen (2005).
