Somerset's icy roads are too dangerous for gritters

Sections of Somerset's roads are too dangerous for gritting lorries to navigate, according to highways chiefs.

In the latest update from the county's gritters, highways chiefs warn that there is 60mm of snow forecast for tonight (Monday, January 21).

While crews will be out from 10pm gritting in preparation for the snowfall, it is admitted that once the snow falls there are sections of highway that are just too dangerous for gritters to navigate.

Instead, gritters will put out ice-warnings signs where possible.
