The fight by the people of Somerset to save their libraries has become an unlikely hit on the video sharing website YouTube.

And the makers of We Love Libraries will be holding a "guerrilla-style" screening on the fascade of a famous building in London later today.

We Love Libraries featuring residents of Shepton Mallet and Glastonbury, including Glastonbury Festival founder Michael Eavis, has become popular viewing on YouTube since it was launched earlier this week.

The movie was shot as the campaign to save libraries gathers pace across the country.

Protests across Somerset are set to save nearly half of the libraries threatened with closure.

Somerset County Council had proposed to close 20 of its 34 libraries but now the number at risk in 2011 has been cut to six.

Libraries which could now avoid the axe include Glastonbury, Cheddar, Ilminster, Martock, Somerton, Shepton Mallet, Dulverton, Castle Cary and Wiveliscombe.

But Porlock, Highbridge, Watchet, Sunningdale, Bishops Lydeard and Bruton are all still under threat.

We Love Libraries features a mix of interviews with celebrities such as screenwriter Lord Julian Fellowes and Big Issue Founder John Bird and local people from Shepton Mallet and Glastonbury. Messages from Sir David Attenborough and Salman Rushdie are also featured on the video.

The film has been produced by four filmmakers, Kevin Redpath, Ken Kutsch, Martin Wells and Garfield Kennedy.

Ken said: "We have had amazing support from the celebrities as well as the local people."
