Somerset back decision to hand Abdur Rehman 12-week drugs ban
Somerset have supported the England & Wales Cricket Board’s decision to ban Abdur Rehman for 12 weeks after he tested positive for cannabis.
The 32-year-old Pakistan left-arm spinner failed a drugs test after his Somerset debut against Nottinghamshire on August 8.

Abdur Rehman has been handed a 12-week suspension
It was yesterday revealed that the recreational drug that had shown up on his test was cannabis – and he was handed a relatively light suspension, which will rule him out of all cricket until December 21.
The suspension ends his hopes of being involved in Sialkot Stallions’ Champions League Twenty20 campaign in South Africa later this month – but would not rule him out of a potential return to Taunton in the new year.

Somerset chief executive Guy Lavender said: “Somerset County Cricket Club fully supports the action taken by the ECB. The club does not condone the use of illegal drugs in any circumstances and all Somerset players are made fully aware of this policy on a regular basis.”
Rehman, who took 27 LV= County Championship wickets at an average of 14.19 in his four games for Somerset, has apologised for his actions.
“I apologise to my family, the Pakistan Cricket Board, the ECB, Somerset County Cricket Club, my team-mates and my fans,” he said.
“It was an error of judgement on my part that will cost me dearly and I would like it to be a lesson to all others in sports elsewhere.
“I will do my best to stay fit and focused during my suspension, and God-willing, will be available for selection for the India series should the PCB see it fit for me to be selected.”
