A Frome couple who could not fit on fun fair rides with their children due to their weight have lost more than 14 stone between them.

Emma and Dylan Smith, of Feltham Drive, went to Butlins last year with their children but because of their size they could not do up the belts on the fun fair rides, so could not join in, something which upset their four children terribly.

Mrs Smith, who weighed nearly 22 stone at the time, said it was heartbreaking to see her children's faces.

She said: "I was struggling to walk as my left knee was so painful and to fit on the rides was impossible.

"The children were so upset that we couldn't get on the rides, but because we were so big the belts just wouldn't go round us."

A few months later, the 28-year-old saw her doctor about her painful knee and was referred to a consultant at the Bath Clinic in November last year, who gave her devastating news.

Mrs Smith said: "The consultant said there was a lot of damage to my knee and if I didn't lose weight I would end up in a wheelchair. It was a real wake-up call for me as two of my children are very ill and need my support, I couldn't let them down.

"And when Dylan, who weighed nearly 17 stone at the time, was told he had high blood pressure, we both decided to lose the weight and get fit."

The couple began their diet and fitness regime in January and have not looked back.

The pair joined Slimming World, at the Cricket Club, and so far Mrs Smith has lost just over eight stone, and Mr Smith has shed six stone, hitting his target weight of ten stone, ten pounds, several months ago.

Mrs Smith said: "We went back to Butlins this year and it was amazing to be able to see the children's faces when we jumped on the rides – it was great fun.

"We walk three hours a day and Dylan has taken up long boarding and we also plan to start swimming and running.

"Dylan's blood pressure is normal and I don't have any more knee pain.

"We've never seen ourselves skinny as we met when we were big – we are two different people and it feels wonderful."
