Somerset looks likely to escape the worst of the rain forecast to sweep over the West Country today.

The Met Office has updated its severe weather warning for the region, which is in place until 10pm tonight, so that Somerset and North Dorset are no longer included.

The yellow warning remains in place for Cornwall and West Devon, although the rainfall is not expected to be as persistent or heavy as the downpours that caused so much devastation over the weekend.

However the Met Office said between 10 and 20mm of rain could still fall and, due to ground already being saturated, the threat of localised flooding and travel disruption remains.
