Somerset Rebels will host Newcastle Diamonds at the Oaktree Arena on Wednesday, September 19
For fans attending the first leg at the Oaktree Arena next Wednesday, there will be a special offer on admission to the Somerset’s first home meeting in the up-coming play-offs that will decide the 2012 Premier League champions.
“With the back-log of fixtures that some teams find themselves in, and with the play-offs looming on the horizon, next Wednesday was the only viable date open to us to stage the first leg of our League Cup semi-final against Newcastle,” said Rebels promoter Debbie Hancock.

“Obviously we would have preferred it if we could have held the match on our usual Friday race night, but Newcastle are at Plymouth that night in a league fixture which could not be rearranged in order for it to be staged prior to the cut-off date ahead of the play-offs.
“We obviously appreciate that a Wednesday night is not necessarily ideal for some of our fans, so those fans that do come along to support the Rebels that night will each receive a voucher entitling them to £2 off the normal adult and concession admission prices for when we stage our first home meeting in the Championship-deciding play-offs, which represents almost 15 per cent saving on our standard adult admission price.
“Additionally, we are also conscious that our season tickets holders had been disadvantaged by virtue of Newport pulling out of the Premier League just before the season got under way, thereby leaving season ticket holders 2 matches short on their package.”
“We did announce a while back that, as a consequence, season tickets will be valid for our home leg in the semi-final of the League Cup, but I can also announce that season tickets will also be valid for both of our home matches in the play-offs, thereby actually enhancing the original season ticket package that was originally covered when people took them out.
"It is our way of saying ‘thank you’ to our loyal season ticket holders in what has been a difficult season weather-wise but one that has seen the Rebels reach the latter stages of the season still in with the chance of winning two major trophies.”
As a result of Somerset hosting Newcastle on Wednesday, September 19, fans are advised that there will be no home meeting at the Oaktree Arena on Friday, September 21.
Prior to the visit of Newcastle in the League Cup, Somerset play host to Workington Comets this Friday (7.30pm) in what will be their final home league match of the season before they embark on the play-offs, the make-up of which will be decided following the cut off date for qualification which is Sunday, September 23.
The Comets, like the Rebels, will be amongst the six clubs that will contest those play-offs, so Friday’s match will have a direct bearing on the final league positions within that top six ahead of the play-offs.
