Somerset Rebels aim to build play-off momentum against Leicester Lions
Cases Somerset Rebels aim to build on their Premier League play-off momentum when Leicester Lions visit the Oaktree Arena on Friday night.
After last week's early start to accomodate the double-header at the Highbridge circuit, the Rebels return to their usual start time of 7.30pm for this week's meeting.
It is their second home outing in the play-offs, having beaten Newcastle Diamonds 53-37 in their opener before claiming an away point in Sunday's away match in the North East.
“Having got our home campaign off to an excellent start with the win over Newcastle last Friday and then earning ourselves a more than well-deserved away point in the return at Newcastle on Sunday, we need to keep that momentum going with another win over Leicester on Friday night,” said Rebels promoter Debbie Hancock.

“But as it is Leicester’s opening group match, they will be equally fired up to get their quest to qualify for the Grand Final off to the best possible start, so it has all the makings of being another Oaktree Arena classic.”
Leicester’s return to speedway action last season after an absence of nearly 30 years was not a happy one as they finished bottom of the Premier League, but 2012 has been a different story with the East Midlands club finishing sixth in the Premier League to qualify for the play-offs.
When Leicester visited the Oaktree Arena at the end of July in the regular league season, it saw the Rebels run out 12-point winners on the night when Jesper B Monberg made his Rebels debut.
Friday’s meeting will be Leicester’s first match in the play-offs.
After that, they will face Newcastle on home shale the following evening before travelling North East for the return match with the Diamonds on the Sunday, October 7.
The play-off group will be completed with Somerset’s visit to Leicester’s Beaumont Leys Stadium on Saturday, October 13.
The group winners will then face the top side from the other group featuring Scunthorpe, Edinburgh and Workington in a two-leg Championship-deciding race-off.
