St George EiG boss Jim Williams believes this could be a pivotal weekend in his side’s battle for survival.

EiG host second-from-bottom Odd Down Reserves with the aim of extending the gap between the sides to seven points, while basement club Glastonbury Town also have a relegation scrap against Bridgwater Town Reserves.

Williams said: “Everybody knows it’s imperative that you win games against the teams around you when you are trying to avoid relegation. This one probably has more importance on it because of games going on elsewhere.

“I’d expect the table to look a little different at Saturday tea-time. It’s a must-win game for us if we are to give ourselves the best chance of staying in this league.”

Shirehampton manager Micky Tanner has re-signed striker Rob Sage.

The bustling forward moved to Bridgwater in September to try his luck in the Evo-Stik Southern League, but injuries hit his hopes of making an impression and he has decided to return to Penpole Lane.

“I’m pleased to have Rob back with us,” said Tanner. “He’s a very experienced target-man, who offers something a bit different to our other strikers.

“He’s strong, aggressive and creates space and chances for those around him, so he’s a good addition.”

Sage goes straight into the squad for tomorrow’s tricky-looking home game against in-form Watchet Town.

Stockwood Green boss Paul Beacham welcomes back striker Daniel Jones for the clash with Taunton Blackbrook.

Jones, who has been out with an ankle injury since early December, returns to a squad that also includes central defender Sam Weller. Midfielder Mark Davidson is missing, though.

Cutters Friday and Nailsea United take a break from the league title race and try to book places in the Somerset Senior Cup quarter-finals.

Cutters go to Division One side Wells City Reserves, and manager Neil Soper said: “They’ve not been pulling up any trees in their league, but they’ve taken a couple of scalps on their way to this round.

“We fancy ourselves, but the fact that we are going to their place and that we’re not 100 per cent sure of what to expect is a bit of a leveller.”

Soper drafts defensive midfielder Ashley Pocock into a squad otherwise unchanged from the one that lost 2-1 at home to Watchet Town last weekend.
