Almost a third of the waste produced from Somerset 's households could be home composted, transforming food and garden waste into a great free fertiliser.
Compost Champions make a big impact in reducing waste to landfill and really enjoy being out in the Somerset community, sharing their skills and making a real difference.
Since the scheme began in 2009, 40 volunteers have been trained as Compost Champions.
Home composting combines kitchen scraps - fruit and veg peelings, tea bags, coffee grounds, egg shells - with cardboard, bedding and manure from vegetarian pets, and garden waste to create free mulch and soil conditioner.
Carymoor pays Compost Champions reasonable travel expenses, provides display materials and is available to give advice if needed.
The training day will be at Carymoor Environmental Trust, near Castle Cary, 10am-4.30pm, Saturday 23 February 2013.
