Pete Trego’s time playing cricket for Abahani in Bangladesh is coming to an end, after which he will remain in the country to play in the inaugural Twenty20 Bangladesh Premier League.

Reflecting on his time in the country so far, the 30-year-old said: “It’s been a very interesting but tough five weeks for me here in Dhaka, and very different to anywhere I’ve played across the world.

“My time here has thrown up challenges and situations you never thought possible playing cricket away from home, but all of them, if processed correctly, will be an invaluable learning experience in the long run for me as both a cricketer and a person.”

Trego explained some of the situations he has had to face up to since being in Dhaka.

“Most of the games we play require a 6am departure, which many who know me will know that is a time of the day where you won’t see the hopefully customary smile on my face!

“We then have to travel across a very congested city to one of the three grounds that we are using during the Dhaka Premier League.

“Then there is the language issue which now I have been on the other side of, an experience that in future will make me extremely patient and understanding if ever a non-English speaking player comes to represent Somerset.”

During his time in Dhaka, the Weston-super-Mare-based all-rounder managed to catch up with his Somerset team-mate Jos Buttler while he was in town playing for England Lions: “It really has been great to see him getting on so well, capping off a good run of scores with two hundreds against Sri Lanka. It’s equally nice to see Craig doing the same.

“It’s good too see our ultra talented young guns doing the biz for England.”

Talking about his cricket experiences, Trego said: “From a cricket point of view, the team have been going well, winning six out of nine games which sits us in the top three and will qualify Abahani for the Super Six stage.

“That is quite an achievement because all the teams are pretty strong.”

Regarding his own form, Trego said: “Unfortunately, I’ve had a run of low scores, finding some very interesting ways of getting out, but on the positive side, I’ve continued my good form with the ball.”

Looking towards the new season back in England, Trego said: “After the BPL, I will get into my work with the lads at the County Ground ready for our attack on the 2012 season, which we are all hugely excited about.

“We are hoping to go that extra mile and bring some silverware back to the Westcountry.”
