Cranmore 101 all out lost to Wellington 188 for 9 by 87 runs

The recent poor weather finally abated on Sunday as Cranmore made the long trip to Wellington.

Having invited the opponents to bat, things initially looked difficult for Cranmore, with Wellington opening batsmen Paul Short (31) and Rob Moysey (36) getting good starts.

However, Mike Pang (3-40) and Sid Lawrence (4-31) bowled excellent spells to bring the innings back under control.

Joe Corp (1-21) and Nigel Alway (1-17) also chipped in with wickets, but quick runs towards the end of the innings from David Hewitt (47) and Alex Sparks (30) helped Wellington to the formidable total of 188 at the end of their 40 overs.

In reply, Cranmore got off to a shaky start, with early wickets to Adrian Lee (1-13) and Jake Nicol (4-12) leaving the visitors on 26-4 after eight overs.

James Stone (6) and Richie Stone (13no) attempted to rebuild the innings, moving the score onto 49-4, but good bowling and a slow wicket made fast scoring difficult.

Some big hitting from Mike Pang (18) and Linden Alway (11) almost looked like bringing Cranmore back into the game, however, a steady flow of wickets kept Wellington on top.

Rowan Varkevisser (2-16), David Derrick (1-16) and Rob Moysey claimed scalps as they wrapped up the Cranmore innings on 101 after just 28 overs.
