Skiverton hails 'scintillating' Glovers
Yeovil Town manager Terry Skiverton described his team as “solid” and “scintillating” as they beat MK Dons 1-0 on Saturday.
Shaun MacDonald’s stunning first half drive secured successive 1-0 victories for the Glovers in Coca-Cola League One.

The score line could have been more convincing for Yeovil, with the hosts spurning a string of good chances in front of goal.
However, MK Dons offered little in attack as the Glovers were positive going forward and resolute at the back.
Skiverton said: “In the first half, on a difficult pitch, I thought we were scintillating. We created four or five excellent chances, but again we do not seem like we are going to put them away.
“That makes MK Dons never far away from us. In the second half they must have got the ball into our box 16 times from long-throws and crosses.
“We had to ride our luck, as you have to in these games, and I am just really pleased to get the three points.
“We have come out for the second half before and it has been 0-0 and the other team will get a chance or a goal. But I thought as a team and as a unit we were really strong and solid.
“Against a team at the top end of the table, I thought we were excellent. That was a massive win for us and I am really pleased and proud with the players for the shift they put in.”
Skiverton made one change to the side successful at Walsall in the week, with Owain Tudur Jones missing out with a groin injury.
Arron Davies returned to the starting line-up in place of his Welsh compatriot and Jean-Paul Kalala passed a late fitness test.
The game took nine minutes to spring to life, when Jermaine Easter gave Glovers’ captain Craig Alcock an early indication of his talent.
The MK Dons striker dropped his shoulder to beat Alcock and cut into the box, before his shot towards the near post was blocked strongly by Yeovil keeper Alex McCarthy.
On 18 minutes Davies found himself in time and space 20 yards from goal. He opted to shoot, but also missed the target, with Willy Gueret in the Dons’ goal watching it sail wide.
However, 22 minutes into the half Gueret was clutching at the air as he was well-beaten by MacDonald.
Davies’ poor corner was headed away by MK Dons’ skipper Dean Lewington, but only as far as Yeovil’s Swansea City loanee.
The midfielder controlled the ball before drilling into the top left-hand corner of the net from 20 yards.
After taking the lead, the Glovers had two clear cut chances to double their tally. When MK Dons failed to clear a corner, Sam Williams and Steven Caulker both had shots blocked before Gueret emerged with the ball from a goalmouth scramble.
Two minutes before the break, Paul Ince’s team were again guilty of not clearing their lines from a set-piece and Davies sent the ball across to Gavin Tomlin. However, he somehow headed wide and across goal from a matter of yards.
Minutes after the restart the Glovers were dealt a blow when Dean Bowditch pulled up through injury. After trying to run it off, he was eventually replaced by Tottenham Hotspur loanee Ryan Mason.
As the half wore on chances became increasingly rare and the game became more and more scrappy. However, the Glovers looked relatively comfortable in defence, nullifying MK Dons’ attacking threat.
At the other end, Williams, not for the first time this season, was operating off scraps and leading the line alongside Mason.
With 66 minutes on the clock the Glovers endured a worrying moment at the back as Terrell Forbes attempted to hold off Luke Chadwick and guide the ball back to McCarthy.
In truth, the ball never had enough pace and the former Manchester United youngster stabbed goal-wards only for Alcock to clear upfield.
This opportunity was the start of a period of pressure for the away team, as Yeovil had to dig in to protect their lead. The introduction of Sean O’Hanlon on 85 minutes almost reaped immediate rewards as only a last-ditch block from Caulker prevented a shot on goal.
Dons immediately came back at the Glovers, with Andros Townsend shooting straight at McCarthy from a tight angle.
