Skills for growth to win business award
The Somerset Business Awards will this year recognise businesses, large and small, that are investing in recruitment, training and skills for their staff for the first time.
The Somerset Employment and Skills Board is sponsoring the new Skills for Growth award to inspire local businesses to see the value of investing in staff and recruiting the right people for the job.
Kath Gigg, chairman of the Somerset Employment and Skills Board, said: "We are delighted to be sponsoring this award, which celebrates businesses that have made a real commitment to skills and training.
"Finding the right people with the right attitude, motivation and skills is a commonly cited challenge for local businesses.

"Since skills are at the heart of business growth, the board wants to recognise and share the success stories of local businesses with others, highlighting examples of what has worked well in recruitment and training and how businesses are making a real difference to preparing the workforce of the future."
Councillor David Hall, cabinet member for strategic planning and economic development, said: "The Skills for Growth Award is a great opportunity to showcase the huge contribution Somerset businesses make to developing skills and growing talent within the county.
"I would encourage local businesses to enter the awards to be recognised as pioneers and proactive business leaders in Somerset.
"Winning an award will be just one of the many benefits of your commitment and investment in skills development in the county."
The Employment and Skills Board is an employer-led partnership that brings employers and their representatives – Care Focus, Creative Somerset, the Institute of Directors, the Somerset Chamber of Commerce, Federation of Small Businesses and Creative Somerset – together with education and training providers, to make sure that employers can recruit the right people and access training that best meets their needs.
The board is supported by Somerset County Council, the five district councils, Jobcentre Plus and the Skills Funding Agency.
Entries will close on Friday, August 31, at 5pm.
