Simon Mantell confident of winning fitness race in time for 2012 Olympic Games
Simon Mantell believes he is on track to recover from his injury setback and win the race to be fit for London 2012.
The Baltonsborough hockey star fractured a metatarsal in his left foot during the Olympic test event last month. After an operation to have the bones pinned, the 28-year-old's rehabilitation has gone to schedule and he remains hopeful of being named in Jason Lee's squad for this summer's Games.

"The foot is getting there," said the former Millfield pupil, whose older brother Richard is also bidding for 2012 selection.
"It is five weeks post-operation, so I'm off my crutches and I am just starting to build up how much weight I put through it

"It is as good as it could be in the circumstances. Hopefully I should be running in the next couple of weeks and back playing in three."
"There is no set date where I need to be fit by. I just have to do everything I can and not worry too much about hitting a date because with these sort of injuries you can push it and then it breaks down later on.
"I want to make sure once I am fit and the foot is solid again that everything will be OK and there won't be problems later on."
Mantell can now boast a pin in both feet, having suffered a break in his right one during the World Cup two years ago.
Having previous experience of the injury, as well as the recovery process, Mantell hopes to be back in action just in time for the Olympic competition.
"I found it very tough, especially initially," added Mantell. "When you have been working towards something for so long, to get a setback like this is difficult to take but I am just trying to stay positive about it. If it had happened last week there would be no chance of me playing."
