Shops urged to take part in carnival competition
FROME shops and businesses are being urged to get involved in this year's carnival Spot the Object competition, sponsored by the Frome Standard.
Last year more than 60 shops entered and the carnival committee is hoping to beat that record this year.
Carnival chairwoman June Barnes said: "We would love to hear from lots of businesses who want to take part and feel they will benefit from getting involved.
"It's always a really popular competition in the town and we want to make it even bigger this year."
The competition involves shoppers being invited to spot an item in the windows of participating shops and businesses which would not normally be there.
Businesses will be given a red spot to identify those taking part.
As well as shops, offices can take part as long as they have a window to display the spot and the object.
The Standard will present £50 to the winner – that is the person or team that correctly spots the highest number of items in the windows.
The competition opens on Saturday, September 7, and will run until Saturday, September 28.
Entry forms for the competition will be available from Mrs Barnes, and participating shops including Ellenbray Press, Badcox paper shop and Frome News, in Christchurch Street West.
They can be filled in by an individual or a team, which can be a group or family.
If there is more than one form with the highest number of correctly identified items, the names on those forms will be put into a hat and one winner drawn.
Once the forms have been completed they need to be posted to Mrs Barnes at 12 Styles Close, Frome BA11 5JS. Businesses interested in taking part can do so by calling Mrs Barnes on 01373 461625.
The Frome Carnival Duck race takes place on Saturday, September 7, from 1pm. Ducks are on sale now and are available from Mrs Barnes.
