The hosts hardly had a chance all evening but made one count, while Shepton’s late onslaught was in vain.

George Booth, Josh Egan and Chris Lane all missed chances early on and Nathan Hallett went close for Westbury.

Ash Willmott missed from close range early in the second half and also set up Egan for a chance that went wide.

Ten minutes after the break, the visitors failed to deal with a Westbury free-kick and Simon Millard pounced to fire home from close range.

The final half-hour was one-way traffic, with United’s occasional counter-attacks rarely troubling Shepton.

Despite several chances for Willmott, Egan and Lee Bryant, a mixture of dogged defending and wayward finishing combined to leave Shepton disappointed at the final whistle.
