Ash Willmott missed from close range early in the second half and also set up Egan for a chance that went wide.
Ten minutes after the break, the visitors failed to deal with a Westbury free-kick and Simon Millard pounced to fire home from close range.
The final half-hour was one-way traffic, with United’s occasional counter-attacks rarely troubling Shepton.
Despite several chances for Willmott, Egan and Lee Bryant, a mixture of dogged defending and wayward finishing combined to leave Shepton disappointed at the final whistle.
