THE headmaster of Sexey's School in Bruton, Raymond McGovern, has spoken about what sets it apart.

He said: "Our aim is to support the individual to fulfil their potential academically and socially."

"This is achieved by setting high standards of teaching, learning and care; as well as having high expectations of behaviour and respect."

Sexey's is a mixed state secondary boarding school for children aged between 11 and 18.

Mr McGovern said: "We are the main post-16 provider for this part of Somerset.

"We are one of only thirty- eight state boarding schools and academies in the country and, with 260 boarders, we are one of the largest of these."

In recent years, Sexey's has featured highly in the national league tables for comprehensive schools.

"This year we were recognised as the top 11-18 state school in Somerset and top 10 per cent of non-selective schools in England, for both attainment and progress", says Mr McGovern.
