This is Somerset

Andrew Pickering, head of history and archaeology at Strode College, Street, is looking to produce a new photographic book of Cheddar and Axbridge.

I am a student on the history, heritage and archaeology foundation degree course, also run by Mr Pickering, live in Cheddar and am collecting old postcards, photographs and other records of Cheddar and Axbridge life between 1890 and the present day on Mr Pickering's behalf.

People's first thoughts when seeing a photographic book about a place is that it is about buildings and scenes.

However, Mr Pickering is also keen to record the varied activities of the adults and children who really are the village or town.

Do you have photographs, documents or images that might be included in this new book somewhere in the house or attic or on the computer?

It may be that you have a photograph of someone who has retired or a party or procession to mark a royal coronation or jubilee, the end of the First World War and the Second World War or some other special village event.

We would ask to borrow your source for a few hours to photocopy a paper and copy and scan the image on to a computer.

If you would like to offer any source(s) we would be very grateful to receive it / them. Please telephone me on either 01934 741383 or 01934 742637.

I am in the process of changing my telephone number.

Thank you.
