Pakistan's cricketers arrived in the West last night as police and cricketing authorities continued their probe into alleged spot-fixing.

Security was tight around the Holiday Inn, on the outskirts of Taunton, as the touring side arrived ahead of their match against Somerset on Thursday.

Players, including four who have been questioned by police, and coaches refused to answer questions as they went into their hotel.

Cricket agent Mazhar Majeed, 35, is on police bail as officers investigate claims that reporters from the News of the World, posing as Far Eastern businessmen, paid a middleman £150,000 in return for exact details relating to play at Lord's. It was also suggested that up to 80 international Tests could form part of the police investigation.

Pakistan team manager Yawar Saeed has confirmed Test captain Salman Butt, bowlers Mohammad Aamer and Mohammad Asif, and wicketkeeper Kamran Akmal, were questioned by police at the team hotel on Saturday night.

Somerset chief executive Richard Gould also said the club would create a "Somerset bubble" around the Pakistan team ahead of Thursday's match, a warm-up for the scheduled one-day international series, which begins next week.
