Scottish sculpture to dwarf Bridgwater's M5 Willow Man
The roadside giants of England, the Angel of the North and Bridgwater’s Willow Man, are to be dwarfed by a sculpture over the Scottish border in Gretna.
The 37-metre Star of Caledonia resembles a thistle, an atom and a map of Scotland and will cost £4.2 million.

The Angel of the North is 20 metres high, eight higher than Somerset’s M5 giant. Government funding has been pledged to the tune of £1 million for the sculpture by Cecil Balmond.

“Rather surprised considering the state of the Scottish economy, it has just been likened to Spain's! I'm sure all those struggling to pay their bills will be delighted! That's governments for you!”
