Sci-fi fan has first story printed in magazine

Peasedown St John author Guy Hayley is to have his first short story published in sci-fi magazine Interzone.

The 39-year-old said he was over the moon at getting his work published in what is seen as the premier magazine for science-fiction fans.

His debut will bring him to international attention at a time when he has four books due to be published this year.

Originally from Yorkshire, Mr Hayley moved to the Bath area working with Future Publishing and interviewing some of the biggest names in science-fiction and fantasy before embarking on his own fiction writing.

His short story iRobot picks apart the modern reliance on technology and will be featured in the January issue of Interzone.

He first became interested in fantasy at the age of seven when his mother read him The Hobbit by JRR Tolkien, a film adaptation of which was recently released in cinemas, pictured.

Mr Hayley's next titles, Baneblade, Skarsnik and the Death of Integrity will be published later in the year by Black Library and The Crash by Solaris.
