School at core of Apple Day fun and games
OAKFIELD Academy is hosting this year's Apple Day in a new collaboration between the school, the Fruitful Schools organisation and the Sustainable Frome Apple Group.
The event will take place on Sunday, November 10, from 1pm to 4pm, at the Oakfield Road school and everyone is welcome.
All of the usual fun activities are being planned and apple experts will be back to identify varieties and offer tips and advice to those with garden trees.
This year, people will also be able to tour the new Discovery Orchard, which links Oakfield Academy with Trinity First School and Critchill Special School, and see how the children have planned and designed their own orchard to provide fresh fruit for pupils of the future.

There will also be a chance for people to see the Fruitful Schools Great Fruit Free-for-all, where many schools are working together to collect excess fruit and make products to pass on to those in need.
The event is later in the year than usual, so those with apples to identify should store them carefully to keep them in good condition for the day.
The best way to store apples is to keep them in a cardboard box in an unheated, outdoor shelter, such as a shed, wrapped in newspaper if possible.
There will be freshly pressed juice at the event, as well as music and games and stalls of local produce and crafts.
People are invited to take a stall at the event, and should contact Tash Child at Oakfield to book their tables.
