The Axbridge Saxon under-12s team christened their new kit at their away game against St George Easton-in-Gordano last weekend.

The kit was funded by a sponsored run in which the team players each ran a timed mile, while their coaches each completed a half marathon.

The 14 players in the squad were set the target of achieving an aggregate time that was faster than the time achieved by their coaches in the half marathon (needless to say the children won hands down).

The sponsorship money paid for the strip while the embroidery and numbering of the shirts was sponsored by David Parkin of Parkin Leisure in Cheddar.

The match was a close-fought battle, which unfortunately Axbridge lost 3-2, with St George scoring the winning goal with the last kick of the game.

Currently the Axbridge under-12s are mid-table in their league, having played 11, won five, lost five and drawn one.
