Sam Foley compared to Niko Krancjar after flying start at Yeovil Town
Attacker Sam Foley’s flying start to his Yeovil Town career has brought comparisons to an international and former Premier League favourite.
Foley has taken little time to settle at Huish Park, seamlessly stepping up from non-League Newport County to become an increasingly key component of Gary Johnson’s Glovers’ line-up.

His performances during 18 appearances have come predominantly in a wide role and produced four goals. Assistant boss Terry Skiverton said Foley’s approach drew parallels to Croatian international Niko Krancjar, who made his name in England with Portsmouth and Tottenham Hotspur before heading for the Ukraine and Dynamo Kiev in the summer.
“We have prized Sam away from Newport County, we have given him his feet in League football and he has come up trumps,” said the former club captain. “I know it is an outrageous comparison but he reminds me a bit of Niko Krancjar, who has flair when he gets on the ball, can play on the left and cut in on his right foot and really links with the forward players.

“He gets to the byline with his weaker foot to get in important crosses and he has come up with some really important goals. He has those attributes and I think he has got the technique and skill for a bit higher as well. Now he has got his legs in this league is his chance to kick on and establish himself.”
Skiverton added he would not be surprised if Johnson is scouring smaller clubs to see if he can find another rough gem that can replicate Foley’s impact in npower League One.
He said: “The gaffer (Johnson) does like two or three in the squad that are untried and untested and I think that is what the gaffer gets a buzz from.
“There is one talking here that had had a rollercoaster time in his career before he met the gaffer. He is a magician at that and I think there are one or two out there that he will be looking out for the future as well to make sure that we have got players that are marketable for the club and also for us to drive the team forward to try to get into the division above.”
