Sainsbury's win backing to build superstore in Cheddar
Supermarket giant Sainsbury's has won approval to build a superstore on a gateway approach to Cheddar.
But permission from Sedgemoor District Council is conditional. The firm will be asked to beef up its promise to renew the village centre and lend aid to traders.

The authority's development control committee heard at length from its own advisers, supporters and objectors from Cheddar this morning during a two-and-a-half hour meeting.
Eight of the 13-strong committee - including district councillors Dawn Hill and Peter Downing of Cheddar and Shipham, respectively - voted to give Sainsbury's conditional permission to build a store at Steart Farm, Wedmore Road. Five objected.

A last-bid attempt by Tesco urging the planning authority to consider its own bid to build a supermarket at Cheddar AFC's ground alongside Sainsbury's failed.
Whether the superstore rival, who's fate is tied to Cheddar AFC's own plan to move to larger premises at Labourham Drove, will continue with its own application or withdraw was not said during the meeting.
