Two Frome ABC boxers entered the Western Counties Championships in Bristol on Sunday.

This was a big step up in class of opponent for both boxers, with Craig Ryder the first in action.

He lost in the semi-finals despite impressing in the first and third rounds of the contest.

Next up was the much improved Mike Rose, who boxed former junior ABA champion Callum Gould in the final of the middleweight division.

The contest was one of the best of the championships, with Rose raising his level to match Gould and winning the first round.

He was still just ahead going into the final round but Gould edged ahead to win it 8-7.
