ROYALISTS and Parliamentarians will storm the beaches at Weston seafront at the weekend.

North Somerset Council is hosting the Sealed Knot event which allows onlookers to see first hand the trials of a nation at war with itself.

An authentic 17th Century camp will be set up and drill displays shown on the Beach Lawns from 10.30am-5pm on both Saturday and Sunday, August 8-9.

There will also be a grand parade through the town at lunchtime on both days finishing with a battle on the Royal Sands at 2.30pm.

Thousands of members of Sealed Knot with their horses, and cavalry, carrying cannons, pikes and muskets will then storm the largest ever sand castle.

Sealed Knot local organiser Richard Pearce said: We are looking forward to staging the most spectacular civil war re-enactment of the year here in Weston."

The major battle site is on the beach between Royal Sands and Uphill and is open from 1-5pm on both days.

Entry is by ticket only and cost £5 adults, £3 children under 16 and a family ticket, for two adults and two children, is £12.

All day parking costing £3 is available at Uphill and Royal Sands beach car parks.

Tickets can be purchased at the gate or in advance from the Tourist Information Centre on the Beach Lawns or via the ticket hotline 01934 888800.
