Rose Bowl awards nominations 2012-13
The South West's amateur theatre "Oscar" awards night at The Winter Gardens, Weston-super-Mare on the night of Sunday, October 13 promises to be a very tense but enjoyable affair.
This year saw 91 entries received by the Rose Bowl Competition organisers representing fifty-eight amateur theatre companies ranging from Exeter, Exmouth and Taunton in the West of the region to Stroud and Dursley in the North and Bath and Bradford-on-Avon to the East.
The number of entries during the 2012/13 year was: 35 plays, 48 musicals, six opera/operetta and two Shakespeare productions (91 in total).
The six adjudicators, one of whom visited each of these companies at their home venue had the unenviable task of deciding nominations for awards in each of the 18 categories. Their collective judgement identified 79 nominations representing 45 different companies from whom the winners will be announced at the glittering awards presentation.
Categories of local interest are: Award for Best Variety/Revue/Pantomime (Frome Amateur Operatic Society, Dick Whittington), Theatek Award for Best Supporting Performance in a Musical (Frome Amateur Operatic Society, Dick Whittington, Lottie Ball as Tom), Melanie Evans Award for Best Actress in a Musical (Frome Amateur Operatic Society, The Sound of Music, Tabitha Cox as Maria – pictured), John Coe Award for Best Dramatic Production (Timsbury Theatre Group, Cash on Delivery), The Bristol Evening Post Award for Best Musical Production (Exit Stage Left, The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee and Frome Amateur Operatic Society The Sound of Music).
