The demure and naive Katie Brown from Chicago, played by Catherine Billing, falls in love with handsome cavalryman Lieutenant Danny Gilmartin portrayed by Noel Avis despite attempts by Calamity to intervene and take him for herself.

Meanwhile, Henry Banks plays the ebullient yet neurotic bar owner, Henry Miller.

Francis Fryer, a talented song and dance actor from New York, is played by Bill Grant, whilst the cowboys' favourite pinup girl, stage star Adelaide Adams, is played by Sandra Hull.

A strong chorus made up of actors of all ages supports the principal characters, portraying characters ranging from old prospectors to racy can-can girls.

Immortalised by Doris Day in the 1953 film with its rip-roaring dialogue and a host of timeless musical favourites such as The Deadwood Stage, Windy City, The Black Hills of Dakota and Secret Love, the show promises to blend comedy, drama and action, bringing all the exhilaration of 19th century wild west America to 21st century Somerset.

Coleford has a rich history of amateur dramatics dating back over 40 years with CF5 being the most recent group, providing musical theatre to the community since 2004.

From less well-known productions such as Pickwick to popular classics like The Wizard of Oz, CF5 has shown an enviable ability to present first class performances to its audiences.

Calamity Jane will be staged at the Royal British Legion Hall, Coleford from Wednesday, November 21 to Saturday, November 24 at 7.30pm plus a matinee on Saturday, November 24 at 2.30pm.

Tickets, priced £6.50 adult and £4 for children under 14, can be ordered by calling the hotline on 01373 812137 or by visiting the box office at Coleford Royal British Legion Hall.
