Rock 'n' rollers' new antidote to mundane music
Strychnine Poisoning are a new four-piece band, bursting to take their dirty rock 'n' roll to the masses.
Your Time spoke to drummer, Andy Wrintmore, to find out more.
-

Your Time: Hey, aren't you the drummer with Rejected Faith?
Andy: I was the drummer with Rejected Faith, but that has all fallen through now.
I was looking for a band made up of more motivated and driven members.
I have also been steering more towards the hard rock genre.
Two guys that go to my college, Johan Jorgensen (vocals and rhythm guitar) and Alex Burcher (lead guitar), had been playing together for a while, and were looking for a hardworking band with whom to start playing music.
They approached me, a drummer, and Jon Brown, a bassist, and Strychnine Poisoning was born last December.
So can you tell us a bit about your musical background, style and influences?
Our music backgrounds are varied, but a lust for hard guitar driven rock and roll unites us.
We're influenced by bands such as: New York Dolls, Misfits, Led Zeppelin, Guns 'n' Roses, Motley Crue, Nirvana and more.
Have you got a CD and what do you write about in your songs?
To date, we have one demo and we are currently recording a five track EP, entitled Heavy Dose.
This should be finished by late March.
We write our songs about emotions, feelings and encounters we find ourselves in. As well as whatever we can think of that makes for a good rock song!
Do you think the music scene in the area is healthy and could more be done for young bands?
The music scene in is, if I'm going to be honest, a little stale.
It's lacking in venues and young bands.
It is definitely getting better, but I think more could be done for young bands like us, like a regular rock night, gig organisation, and rehearsal facilities.
What can people expect at a Strychnine Poisoning gig and have you got any dates lined up?
At a Strychnine Poisoning gig, you can expect to have a rampantly good time, listening to some raw and honest rock and roll music.
We have five confirmed dates, based mainly in the Bath, Trowbridge and Frome area.
We aim to play as far and wide as possible in the future.
You have an audition lined up in Portsmouth. What's that all about?
Our audition in Portsmouth is part of the National Live and Unsigned Competition.
It's an audition judged by a panel of four professionals, and if the audition is passed, we get the chance to play in front of a capacity audience at Portsmouth's Guildhall.
This competition is a great opportunity for us to gain experience and publicity.
Where would you like to be with Strychnine Poisoning this time next year?
With Strychnine Poisoning, we hope to be able to play our music to as many people as possible.
Rock music is the main part of our lives, and we all live for this band.
This time next year, we would like to be touring as a band, with an established fan base, and plenty of material under our belt.
Keep your eyes open for us, as we'll be playing near you in the future, and check out our myspace page, for full gig details, pictures, detailed band information, and most importantly music.
