Road safety is to be welcomed
There has been some comment recently, some of it totally speculative, about the road safety works on Clink Road in the vicinity of Wychelm Road and Brunel Way.
Could I through these columns set the record straight for the benefit of all readers and residents?
The pedestrian islands were originally installed as a result of representations to myself by a number of residents concerned about road safety in that area. As a result of this I was able to secure funding for these works through the Minor Highways Improvement Schemes Budget.
I am sure readers will agree with me that any measures designed to improve road safety are to be welcomed.

It is correct that shortly after installation the islands were removed and replaced and this was due to the fact that the original work was deemed to be sub standard.
Consequently, the islands were replaced to standard in very quick time and more importantly the cost of this remedial work was borne entirely by the contractor not the council, so there was no additional cost to us the local taxpayers.
With other measures also in place on this road I would appeal to all motorists to drive responsibly and show respect for residents and pedestrians in the vicinity, particularly children and the elderly.
