Road offenders the target of police blitz
NUISANCE drivers and people committing driving offences were targeted during a special police operation in Shepton Mallet.
The event, called Operation Fluid, took place on August 16 and involved neighbourhood officers, town centre PCSOs, Special Constables and police staff volunteers.
During the night, one vehicle was seized and the driver issued with a summons to court for driving without a driver's licence and not holding insurance. Another driver was issued with a summons for no insurance and driving otherwise in accordance with a provisional licence.
Warnings were issued for driving without seat belts, with tinted windows, for careless driving and for speeding. A £100 fine was issued to a provisional licence holder who was not displaying L-plates. Words of advice were also given regarding noisy exhausts. Documents were checked and one driver was ordered to attend Wells police station with his MOT certificate to prove it is still in date.
