Richard Hinds targets more Yeovil Town goals after League Cup double
Richard Hinds has targeted more goals for Yeovil Town after netting twice in the 3-0 Capital One Cup defeat of Colchester United.
The defender took just four minutes to break the deadlock in the first game of the season, lashing home from a corner. A minute before half time he doubled his tally with an impressive header from a similar set-piece.
Hinds said he wanted to take extra responsibility when pushed forward, especially with Paul Huntington - who scored six times in two seasons - now at Preston North End.
“I have been known to score a few goals in the past and I just need to get myself in there,” said the 31-year-old. “With Hunts gone there is a slot there to make myself known, to try and get some goals and help the team along.”

Hinds added he was chasing a hat-trick by half time, but conceded Colchester’s marking was unlikely to be as lax as before the break. He said: “The lad that was marking me, we were both complaining about the sun in the corner, so I knew I had an advantage.
“I was just fortunate it landed at my feet, it missed everyone and I was fortunate enough to put it in the side netting.
“The second was a really good header, I just managed to get it at the right time and caught it sweet.
“You’re pushing for your hat-trick after that because it does not happen too often, but their lad wasn’t going to let me have that, he was close after that and I think there must’ve been words said at half time as he was a lot closer after.”
Assistant-manager Terry Skiverton hailed the impact of Hinds, drawing light-hearted reference to a tweet sent by a former coach making reference to the Glovers’ topless team shot.
“It is a really good response as he had a terrible week last week with Nathan Jones tweeting it looked like he had been on holiday to Wookey Hole,” said Skiverton. “He was terrific tonight and was man of the match for me.”
