Review: Clifton College pupils Aannabelle Walshe and Aleksandra Krawczyk (sopranos), Anghard Williams (viola) and James Drinkwater (piano) at Christchurch. 9/10 (John Packwood)
DUE to the indisposition of the original artiste booked Jonathan Price was grateful to singing teacher Margaret Thomas for arranging at short notice a recital by some of her pupils from Clifton College – Aannabelle Walshe and Aleksandra Krawczyk (sopranos), Anghard Williams (viola) and James Drinkwater (piano).
Annabelle started with three popular arias, including Deh Vieni which is sung by Susanna in the Marriage of Figaro and here she showed considerable control and a beautiful tone. She also gave a ravishing version of the famous Vilia from the Merry Widow.
Anghard gave a confident reading of two movements from Vaughan Williams' Suite for Viola and Piano.
Annabelle was then joined by Aleksandra for the Sull'aria duet from The Marriage of Figaro. This was another superb performance.

Aleksandra then chose Schubert's Gretchen am Spinnrade. This is a challenge to both singer and pianist but they both coped admirably.
The whole event was highly enjoyable and these young artistes should certainly have a bright musical future before them. James Drinkwater was the excellent accompanist throughout.
